Alexis Mata is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Mexico City. With a background in urban space intervention, Mata has worked in a multitude of media, such as collage, drawing, painting, installation, and digital art. Mata’s work frequently includes references about death, violence, beauty, and the exaltation of Manichaean ideas of a prosperous but corrosive past. For his series “Espejismos de Origen (Mirages of Origin),” Mata explored individual and collective identification processes concerning official history and national mythology. His work has been exhibited across Mexico, as well as in Los Angeles, London, and other international cities.
